A wind-firm hedge is worth its weight as a salt and privacy screen on an exposed beaches block. We shape coastal banksia, tuckeroo and lilly pilly so they stay dense against onshore wind. Trimming keeps screens healthy without opening gaps the wind can punch through.

Pebbles Northern Beaches

Pebbles suit the relaxed coastal look and the fast-draining sand underfoot. We use them for beachy beds, pool surrounds and paths that never bog, plus dry creek lines on steeper headland blocks. The finish reads coastal and needs almost no upkeep.

Decking Northern Beaches

A deck turns a steep headland fall into a room with a view on the Northern Beaches. We build hardwood and composite decks rated for salt exposure and set them to catch the aspect you want. Fixings are marine-grade so the structure lasts near the sea.

Retaining Walls Northern Beaches

Blocks that tumble toward the water in Bilgola or Avalon need walls that hold sandy, sloping ground. We build stone, block and sleeper walls with drainage suited to coastal sites. Structural work is engineered and checked with council first.

Pure sand will not hold a lawn on its own, so we build the soil up before turf goes down. We lay salt and sun-tolerant buffalo that copes with the coastal aspect and foot traffic to the pool. On shaded southern blocks we switch varieties for lower light.

The peninsula’s toughest garden conditions

Coastal exposure drives every decision on a beaches block. On the northern peninsula, where bushland meets the coast, we also check bushfire mapping through the NSW Rural Fire Service, and structural work is measured against Northern Beaches Council requirements.

Salt-laden wind that scorches soft foliage

Onshore wind carries salt that burns tender leaves and rusts cheap fixings across the peninsula. Species and materials have to be picked for it from the start.

Fast-draining sand that won’t hold water

Beaches soil is largely sand, so water and nutrients drain away before plants can use them. Beds need building up to hold anything at all.

Headland blocks that fall away to the sea

From Bilgola to Whale Beach, blocks drop steeply, so retaining and decking create the flat space you actually use.

Northern Beaches landscaping FAQs

Access and slope drive the price on the peninsula, so we quote after a free site visit rather than over the phone. A flat Dee Why courtyard and a steep Avalon headland block are worlds apart. Quotes are itemised with no call-out fee.

Coastal natives such as banksia, westringia, tuckeroo and coastal rosemary hold up far better than soft exotics. We build gardens around species proven on exposed beaches blocks.

Yes, steep sites are much of what we do here. We terrace, retain and deck to carve out level space, with structural walls engineered and lodged with Northern Beaches Council.

We improve the sand with organic matter and lay moisture-holding mulch so beds actually retain water. It is the difference between replanting every summer and a garden that holds.

We hold Home Renovation Licence 467914C and bring over 20 years of coastal work. We do not currently advertise insurance, so confirm any cover you need with us directly.
