Why this matters

Hand-watering wastes your weekends and most of the water

Sydney summers are getting longer, drier and hotter. Keeping lawn green and garden beds healthy with a hose means dragging it out three or four times a week, fighting kinks, missing patches, and watering at the wrong time of day. Most of that water runs off, evaporates, or hits the path. The plants only see a fraction.

A properly installed garden sprinkler system fixes the problem at the source. Pop-up sprinklers cover lawns evenly. Drip line delivers water directly to roots in garden beds. A smart controller decides when to run based on the weather forecast and skips watering when rain is coming. You stop thinking about it; the garden looks better than it ever has.

We’ve been installing and maintaining gardens across Sydney for more than twenty years. A sprinkler system is one of the few upgrades that pays you back every single week. – A Bargain Gardener

What’s in the system

The components we install and why each one matters.

Every Sydney property is different. Soil, sun aspect, water pressure and what’s planted all change the design. These are the building blocks we draw from.

01 / Lawn

Pop-up sprinklers

Heads sit flush with the lawn and rise when watering, throwing an even spray across the turf. Sized to your block so coverage overlaps without flooding the path.

02 / Garden beds

Drip line & sub-surface drippers

Slow, targeted water straight to the root zone of hedges, natives, vegies and ornamentals. Very little evaporation. Works between 10am and 4pm under Sydney Water rules.

03 / Brains

Smart Wi-Fi controller

Schedules every zone, adjusts run times to the forecast, and skips watering when rain is coming. Control it from your phone whether you’re home or on holiday.

04 / Plumbing

Solenoid valves & manifold

The taps that open and close each zone on schedule. We install them in an accessible valve box so any future maintenance is easy no digging up the lawn.

05 / Source

Mains, tank or both

We can run your system off the water main, off a rainwater tank with pump, or off a tank with mains backup useful for newer homes built under BASIX with tanks already plumbed for outdoor use.

06 / Protection

Backflow & pressure regulation

Keeps your drinking water clean and protects components from over-pressure. Sized to your site after a flow and pressure test on day one.

Our process

From first phone call to handover

No two Sydney gardens are the same. Here’s how we move from a free site visit to a finished, working system you can rely on

Step 1

Free site quote

Call or fill out the form and we’ll book a time to visit, walk the property, look at lawn and bed coverage, check your tap and pressure, and give you a fixed-price quote in writing. No call-out fee.

Step 2

Design & zoning

We design the system around your garden: pop-ups for lawn, drip for beds, separate zones for sun and shade. Sun-baked north-facing strips don’t share a zone with a shady fern bed.

Step 3

Installation

Trenches are kept narrow and tidy. Lawns are cut, lifted and relaid where we run pipe under turf. Most residential installs are finished in one to three days on site.

Step 04

Smart controller setup

We program the controller, link it to your Wi-Fi, set seasonal schedules, and show you how to override or pause it from the app. Sydney Water-wise rules are baked into the schedule.

Step 05

Walkthrough & guarantee

We run every zone with you, point out the shut-off, hand over a simple operating sheet, and clean up. You leave with a working system, fixed pricing honoured, and the work guaranteed.

Sydney-specific

Designed to stay compliant with Sydney Water’s rules

Sydney has year-round water-wise guidelines, and the rules tighten when restrictions step up. We design and program your system so you can keep watering legally, even during restrictions.

Before 10am & after 4pm

Sprinklers and watering systems are permitted before 10am and after 4pm using drinking water the cool-of-day window your plants prefer anyway.

10am – 4pm

Smart watering systems and drip irrigation may be used through the middle of the day. Drip line in your garden beds is allowed when a normal sprinkler isn’t.

Tank water

Water from rainwater tanks is exempt from the standard restrictions. If you have a tank with a pump, we can plumb the system to use it as the primary source.

Always check current guidance at Sydney Water’s water-wise guidelines rules can change with dam levels and seasonal restrictions.

Choosing what suits your garden

Pop-up sprinklers vs drip line – which do you actually need?

In most Sydney gardens, the right answer is both, zoned separately. Here’s how each does its job.

For lawn & turf

Before 10am & after 4pm

  • Even spray coverage across open lawn
  • Heads retract flush safe for mowing
  • Best run before 10am or after 4pm
  • Sized to your water pressure and block
  • Works well alongside freshly-laid turf while it establishes

For garden beds

Drip line & drippers

  • Water straight to roots minimal evaporation
  • No overspray onto paths, fences or walls
  • Permitted between 10am – 4pm under water-wise rules
  • Suits hedges, natives, vegetable beds, ornamentals
  • Pairs neatly with good mulching and fertilising for water retention

Fixed pricing

What goes into your quote – so there are no surprises later

We don’t quote sprinkler installation over the phone using square metres alone. The actual price depends on your site. Here’s what we factor in during the visit so the number we give you is the number you pay.

The garden itself

  • Size of lawn and number of bed areas
  • Aspect sun, shade and wind exposure
  • Existing plants & what’s being installed
  • How many zones the design actually needs

The supply & equipment

  • Mains, tank or combined water source
  • Flow rate & pressure measured on site
  • Controller (standard timer vs Wi-Fi smart)
  • Backflow protection & valve manifold

Bundle & save

Often booked together

A sprinkler install is the perfect time to think about lawn renewal, bed prep or a wider landscape brief we can package the work together and save you a separate visit.

Turf laying

New turf needs steady, gentle watering for its first month the perfect job for a fresh sprinkler system.

Mulching & fertilising

Mulch dramatically reduces how often drip line needs to run. Booked together, you save water and trips.

Landscaping

Planning a full landscape redesign? It’s far cheaper to install irrigation before paving, beds and turf go in.

Frequently asked

The questions Sydney homeowners ask before booking

Cost depends on the size of your garden, the number of zones, the type of sprinklers and controller, and whether you’re running off mains, a tank, or both. We quote a fixed price up-front after a site visit so there are no surprises mid-job.

Most residential installs take one to three days on-site once the design is signed off. Larger properties with multiple zones, tank tie-ins, or hard-to-reach garden beds can take longer. We confirm the timeline in your written quote.

Yes. Sydney Water’s water-wise guidelines permit watering systems before 10am and after 4pm, and smart watering systems or drip irrigation may be used between 10am and 4pm. We size and program your controller to keep you compliant.

Pop-ups suit lawns and open turf; drip line and sub-surface drippers suit garden beds, hedges and planted strips. Most Sydney homes need both, zoned separately so each area gets the right amount of water.

Yes, if your tank has a suitable pump and pressure. We can run the system from a tank, from mains, or from a tank with mains backup. This is worth discussing at the site visit, especially for newer Sydney homes built under BASIX with rainwater connection already in place.

Yes. Wi-Fi smart controllers let you start, stop and reschedule watering from your phone. They also adjust automatically to weather forecasts and skip cycles when rain is expected, which protects your plants and your water bill.
